Bels 1, St Martin’s 5
DOM HEAUME gave a masterclass in link-up play and Glyn Dyer sparkled as St Martin’s swept into the semi-finals of the Wheway Cup with a modicum of fuss.
Colin Fallaize’s side made light of the irritation and the inevitable negative mindset of having to play on Victoria Avenue as opposed to a proper football ground such as the Track preservation area, to book a clash with St Ouen, who one strongly suspects will not be in the Guernsey Saints’ class when they eventually meet.
It is 32 years since St Martin’s won Jersey’s premier cup competition for the sixth and most recent time, but such is their class and squad depth in 2011 that the long drought may well end this year.
Bels huffed and puffed, but the champions are a pale imitation of last year’s championship side and could not have complained had they been beaten by 10.
