Sharp cost of living hike will pressure household budgets

Monday 10th January 2011, 2:29PM GMT.

High Street Town St Peter PortISLANDERS should brace themselves for a sharp hike in the cost of living this year.

On top of the tax increases already approved by the States in December, households will have a new wastewater charge of £150 per year and a potential £1 increase to telephone line rental charges.

A predicted rise in oil prices could drive up the cost of motoring fuel and energy and a UK VAT rise to 20% will squeeze companies supplying the island.

Mail and ferry travel could also cost more if the States moves forward with suggested increases on air freight and harbour charges.

All my waste water goes into water butts and a soakaway, yet we have to pay £150 for them to waste looking into pumping our sewage into the sea, haven’t they been looking at it for the past 20 years? Waste of yet more money, that I can’t afford. Maybe I should quit my job and go on the dole, make a few babies and get a States House.

We already pay for that to be taken away via Sewage Lorry or via Main Drain, which isn’t cheap.

The cost of fuel is also rising, we’re nearing UK levels of cost, when fuel costs have maybe risen 1p per litre in the past 5 years. We’re paying over half the cost of a litre on tax alone, yet our roads are the worst state they’ve been in in a long time, there are pot holes everywhere, I drive a factory standard low car, if I get any pot hole damage I hope I can claim some compensation.

The other way to get around this fuel tax is to use domestic fuel, which is far cheaper and can be put in any diesel car, just put some dye in and you can’t get pulled if they test you.

And also cut the wages of those left. if they dont like it remind them how we don’t like their signatures on rising prices.

Show no mercy. as they seem to show no mercy.
