THE University of Southampton has begun taking local blood samples for vital research into prostate cancer.

Hope for Guernsey has teamed up with the Faculty of Medicine at the university, the Medical Specialist Group and the Health and Social Services Department to conduct the research.

A total of 180 local male volunteers, who have or have had prostate cancer, will have their blood taken this week.

The blood will be processed in the island and then taken to the university.
