Bowl of Jersey teen’s life denies brave de la Mare
Wednesday 12th January 2011, 2:29PM GMT.
VICTORIA College student Ross Davis denied Dan de la Mare (pictured) a place in the British Isles bowls after delivering the shot of his young life.
The 16-year-old was staring defeat in the face when de la Mare left his bowl centimetres away and blocking the front of the jack.
With the scores tied at 20-all and the pressure on Jersey’s young champion – and with a large and appreciative crowd urging him on – Davis then drew a perfect shot which resulted in de la Mare’s bowl falling back. This left Davis to a 21-20 win.
Davis was a very happy champion and is thought to be the youngest ever winner of a Channel Islands title in a British Isles qualifying tournament.
