Gary Crane with his 10-14-11 Bailiwick and British record marbled electric ray. (1041451)
VISITING angler Gary Crane’s 10-14-11 marbled electric ray, caught east of Sark last October, has successfully gained two records.
At their meeting held in London just before Christmas, the British Record (Rod-Caught) Fish Committee accepted the ray as the new national boat-caught record.
The Bailiwick Record Committee came to a similar decision at their recent meeting, accepting the ray as the local boat-caught best, which ousted the previous record, a fish of 6-13-12 caught by Marcus Odoli off Platte Saline in September 2009.
Ironically Crane’s catch will not become a Channel Island record. This is held by a 14-7-0 Jersey fish, which strangely was never put forward to claim a British record.
