OUR doubles savings for some bulk mail

OUR director John Curran.
PROPOSALS by Guernsey Post to cut or freeze prices on many of its services have been taken a step further by the regulator, which today announces the pricing structure for the next three years.
In October, Guernsey Post submitted its tariff proposals to the Office of Utility Regulation. The utility proposed freezing many prices for bulk mail, household and business customers. It came at the same time as the States-owned utility committed to strip about £3m.-worth of costs from the business.
The OUR welcomed those proposals, which it said represented a change in approach by the operator, but decided that some of the suggested reductions could be greater. ‘Guernsey Post’s own proposals included many reductions and cost-freezes for business customers,’ OUR director-general John Curran (pictured) said.
‘The OUR review has further extended these proposals and, as a result, certain bulk mail charges to the UK will fall by almost 6p per item. This is double the saving that Guernsey Post had originally proposed.’

If we see more people losing their jobs at Guernsey Post, and bad quality service we can blame John Curran, he’s fudged up quite a lot already, so I expect him to fudge up some more stuff.
It would be nice to see a justification published by the regulator to explain his actions and his projected future profitability of Guernsey Post.
It sometimes seems that J C is a man who has to have the last word, why he seems unable to accept the proposals from GPL which have included price cuts and a freeze on certain services and then gauge the impact of those measures after say a year and then perhaps make further cuts.
Guernsey Post will still be here long after John Curran has hung up his hatchet, let us hope it will still be able to provide a service.
I thought the States were going to ‘encourage’ a gentler Regulatory model!
