Island-wide elections get chief minister’s vote
Saturday 15th January 2011, 2:29PM GMT.
CHIEF MINISTER Lyndon Trott has backed the minority report on island-wide voting.
The report, prepared by States Assembly and Constitution Committee chairman Ivan Rihoy (pictured), recommends that 10 deputies be elected island-wide with 35 within the district system.
He believes the report on the topic prepared by his own committee will fall in the States, with members unlikely to support its proposal for 45 deputies elected island-wide.
Currently, islanders vote for six or seven deputies within the electoral district in which they live.
