Filtering of sewage part of project

Monday 17th January 2011, 2:29PM GMT.

Andrew RedheadGUERNSEY Water has invited contractors for expressions of interest in a £8.5m. project to build a sewage filtering facility and storm water storage tanks at Belle Greve.

Director of water services Andrew Redhead (pictured) said that they would be as unobtrusive as possible.

‘We are looking carefully at design,’ he said.

‘We don’t want to spend on an expensive below-ground structure which would lead to problems. We are looking at what will be good for value. Part of it could be below ground and anything above ground with liquid waste will be odour controlled, so there will be no nasty smells.’

Not sure what ‘filtering’ involves but it doesn’t sound like proper sewage treatment to me.

Surely filtered s*** is just s*** with less bits in it.

Oh here we go again!!!! Why spend money on something that does not fix the problem? As Betty stated this is not really treating anything! Who makes these decisions? Some of the decisions being made by this states and their civil servants are really beyond belief…If this was some third world country it would not surprise me, but it is not! Please stop wasting our money….anyone for an armoured car to transport the CM?

Here we go, more factless moaning!

If you go read up about it you’ll see you need the filtering before you can put sewage treatment in place, so this is in fact a precursor to full treatment. You lot should be happy as it shows they are working towards full treatment, not ignoring it as before.

Oh and Damo, err, yes, they said all along the £150 was for improvements to the sewage handling, where’s the shock?

But don’t let any facts get in the way of having a good old moan when you don’t know what you’re talking about eh!

The “fact” police are upon us! Seeing that Truth Man is so well informed…help me out a bit: Which area is this facility to cater for? As a percentage how much will it handle? Is one of these sufficient? Will this facility fit in with the non-existent waste plant? On another point…why should someone like MR G pay the 150 pounds if he does not create any “waste” that would use the system? Is it not better to adopt a pay as you use system instead of a flat rate? It seems to me that a house containing a single occupant would create a lot less waste than a house with multiple occupants. That’s it….moaning done!

You ask why, well that’s the God given right of free people to ask why and wherefore.
Now then I reckon the questions are because so much money and time has been wasted by this particular States, that people are wary when a scheme comes like this one.

Will it do the job, or is it a testing ground, if so say so.

‘As it’s taxpayers money they have the right to ask questions.

But you; “The Truth” swallows everything, are you one of THEM?

Ah but Islander, most aren’t asking questions, they see an issue and scrabble about trying to find the worst case scenario, and then moan about it as though it was fact.

After all, if they genuinely wanted to know the facts they would be asking the departments concerned, not on a random internet forum bemoaning the very existence of the cruel cruel world that sustains them (despite the States attempts blow it up, they are, honest).

And woe betide anyone who stands up for THEM, as they must therefore be one of THEM. Just so you know, no, I am not, but I was a civil servant until 12 years ago.

Jsimpson, I look forward to hearing how you are going to measure the waste water leaving every property on the island in a cost effective manner, and if you want answers to your questions why not go ask however is in charge of the project rather than bitching about it on here? Or is that to likely to remove your opportunity to moan?

It seems to me that as civil servant the attitude dug deep into your soul, thereby causing you to rebel at any one who DARES to write to a blog such as this,

Your attitude leaves a lot to be desired,

It’s not moaning as you try to interpret it, but a genuine concern at the carelessness of the the ruling body.
The days of hiding behind doors are long past, and every man woman and child has the right to question the attitude of others.
You seem to think that all should turn a blind eye- well they don’t and won’t.
So you should apologise for your stupid words and realise that Islanders were never slaves to any one but themselves. so don’t try to intimidate others into your way of thinking-
The days of CAP in hand and “thank you Sir” are gone.

There’s more! I believe he then bags it up and sells it at 50p a go at his gate (which he had to widen by 30cm in order to get his car in)

The ‘for sale’ board looks a bit big too !
