Commercialisation: ‘Don’t rule out States Works yet’

PUBLIC SERVICES might be forced to investigate commercialising States Works.
Commerce and Employment minister Carla McNulty Bauer (pictured) has placed an amendment to the department’s report – on potentially commercialising its business units such as the airport, harbours and Guernsey Water.
She wants Public Services to include States Works in an ongoing evaluation of the options for changing the ‘business environments’ of those units.
PSD has previously said that States Works should continue to operate as it does now, as there was no benefit in commercialising it. But Deputy McNulty Bauer disagrees.

As far as I was aware States Works is already run as a business and operate to make a profit, any profit they make is re invested into the business. States works does not get any direct funding from the states of Guernsey. so how would further commercialisation help the States? or Is Mrs Mc Nulty Bauer just trying to upset another section of our society. shes good at that.
