IT IS a match that has been the definition of Guernsey club football over the past five years.

Now, even though both sides have dropped below the heady heights of recent times, North and Bels clash in a match with huge significance tonight at Northfield.

Since 2006, every title has been won by one of the two clubs: Bels’ three and North’s two constantly sandwiching one another in the record books.

In that time they have served up some classics, none more so than last season’s 12-goal thriller when defending champions North beat their great rivals from the Track 7-5.

I predict a score line of 5 or 6 nil to the mighty North. Bels no longer have the calibre of player to match North, St Martins, Rangers and even maybe Vale Rec. Bels lost Cochrane to us Bradford to St Martins and have had to be without Dave Rihoy, Matt Drillot, Neil Clegg and Craig Young for the most of the season with long term injuries so to be fair there is no team that can afford to lose 6 players of that ability and not see their performances deteriorate, with the exception of St Martins that is. Tonight will be a another painfull experience for the blue and whites, mark my words

Bels have been on the wane for the last 15 months. Even before the players left, they had stopped playing for Champy.

Shame really as I liked watching them at their best.

I must resolve to watch Saints play this year…
