Friday 21st January 2011, 2:29PM GMT.
A SENIOR prison officer told an employment tribunal yesterday that his experience in UK prisons was a bone of contention among local staff.
Sean Murphy was speaking as a witness in a constructive dismissal hearing brought by former senior officer Mike Appelqvist (pictured).
Both he and deputy governor Rachael Green have significant experience of working in prisons outside the island.
He told the panel that at times, this had been a source of contention among local officers.
He said there was a culture among staff that manifested itself in comments such as: ‘You are not in the UK now’ and ‘We’ve done things like this in Guernsey for years’.
