No plans to scrap hotels rating system

Chris ElliottGUERNSEY will continue operating a star rating system for hotels despite reports suggesting that the UK plans to scrap the model.

Commerce and Employment said the current arrangements, which cost the department £40,000 a year, offered objective scoring and warned against relying on review sites such as tripadvisor.com.

National newspapers yesterday claimed that the UK was to drop state funding for the official star rating system used to rank hotels.

But director of marketing and tourism for Commerce and Employment Chris Elliott (pictured) said Guernsey had no intention of following the move.
