Positive but difficult year is 2011 prediction

THE president of the Guernsey branch of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment expects 2011 to be a positive year for the financial markets.

But he insisted it would be a far more challenging 12 months than 2010, which itself was not free of volatility.

Justin Oliver, who was speaking ahead of the local organisation’s annual dinner, at which former BBC newsreader Peter Sissons was guest speaker, is six months into his two-year term of office as local CISI president.

‘2010 was a year of continued recovery in financial markets, but there were a few wobbles along the way and I think these wobbles may become a little more severe in 2011.’
