LOCAL schoolchildren will once again get the chance to compete in the fourth edition of the Specsavers Youth Games, launched last night.

The announcement of the biennial event, which began in 2005, was held in front of various children from Years 5 and 6 who will compete in June, as well as deputies and representatives from the 16 sports included.

Divided into the seven local voting districts, children are encouraged to participate in sports they usually would not play, with the Games taking place on Saturday 4 June, following six weeks of basic training.

Specsavers founder Dame Mary Perkins spoke of her pleasure in sponsoring the Guernsey Sports Commission event again.
