A BAND featuring local man Alex Robertshaw on guitar has been crowned as the South Bank Arts Awards best breakthrough artist of 2011.

Everything Everything, a band that mixes three-part harmonies with post-punk guitars, claimed the title from a list of 10 nominees – including specialists in stage, dance and other art forms.

The Times best breakthrough artist was the only category to be decided by a public vote at the ceremony, which was broadcast on Sky Arts.

Mr Robertshaw, 24, a former Elizabeth College student, said the news had still not sunk in.
