‘IF YOU get a chance, then take it with both fists.’

That is the advice of legendary boxer Joe Calzaghe yesterday when he was in the island as special guest for the Sportingbet CI Sports Personality of the Year awards and also taking the opportunity to conduct a coaching session with some of Guernsey’s best boxers.

The Welshman is one of only three men in history to retire as an undefeated and undisputed world champion, with a professional record of 46-0.

But despite his pedigree, the 38-year-old, who retired in 2009, admitted that he has not been directly involved with the sport since then.

    This once respected and famous bloke should be expressing his regrets over the mistakes he made over the last year. I would be far more impressed if he decided to come to the local schools to warn children regarding the dangers of using drugs.

    Nice job Joe, you were once a role model.
