NICK TROWER takes a whole lot of stopping on a rugby pitch – and there was no stopping the big forward in the public vote which decided the 2010 Sportingbet Sports Personality of the Year award.

There was a tangible, but very brief, moment of disappointment among the largely home audience at Beau Sejour last night as the big Jerseyman was announced winner from the three local hopes, Lee Merrien, Ross Allen and Heather Watson, as well as Jersey’s national badminton champion Liz Cann.

Magnanimously, Trower said afterwards: ‘They [the Jersey team] did most of the work and I got most of the glory off the back of them.’

But Guernsey did have successes on the big night for CI sport.
