Restoring UK health agreement ‘could cost up to £1m. a year’
Saturday 29th January 2011, 2:29PM GMT.
EARLY estimates suggest reinstating the reciprocal health agreement with the UK could cost between £500,000 and £1m. a year.
And the decision to restore it looks likely to be left to the States, according to a Health and Social Services spokesman.
He said the potential cost would include lost income, GP charges in Accident and Emergency and Medical Specialist Group and ambulance charges.
But to arrive at an accurate estimate, the department would enter into discussions with those service providers.
‘HSSD will then recommend to its board that a full report be submitted to the States, for the matter to be debated and decided by that forum.’

This is a joke, stop messing around and get on with the agreement. Sounds like budget politics to me. See our IOM cousins already have this arranged and Jersey on the way. Reports consultations, states debates blah blah blah. Get on with it !!

Looks like it would mean those who don’t travel to the UK would be subsidising those of us who do?
That does not strike me a fair. If we travel what’s the hassle of getting travel insurance which not only covers health but also delay, theft etc….?

Does this mean that we saved this large amount when the agreement stopped? And so restoring it really costs nothing? Or am I missing something?
Hello makes a very fair point about subsidising the travellers – not that insurance is always possible, depending on age and medical condition. The last one I had was not worth the paper it was written on.
Coming back to my first point, I think this is very good news.
