IT HAD the potential to be a humdinger, but in the end it fell well short, not that St Martin’s will mind.
After the game, Saints assistant coach Alfie Le Page said that these are the games you want and need to win and, in truth, the title is already looking done and dusted with the Priaulx Cup as good as dressed in black-and-white ribbons by the end of January.
Anyone expecting a repeat of the two sides’ Stranger Cup thriller last month would have left disappointed, although it did show North are not a million miles away from being title challengers themselves.
Their cause on the night was severely hindered by the 20th-minute departure of Simon Tostevin to an ankle injury, by which time his side could have been a goal to the good.
