SOME NSPCC staff were made redundant via email when the Guernsey branch of the society was shut down, an employment tribunal heard yesterday.

It was hearing a claim by five members of staff, one of whom dropped out at the start of the hearing, that they were unfairly dismissed after losing their jobs at the end of 2009 and start of 2010.

Representing Mick Dunbar, Rosalyn Priaulx, Julie Bowditch and Alison Wakefield, Advocate Simon Geall said the consultation period to decide whether the Guernsey branch would remain open was a sham as the decision to close it had been made before the process began.

Representing the NSPCC, Advocate David Christie said the society took issue with all the points raised.
