Bels turn to old player to help out
Wednesday 9th February 2011, 2:30PM GMT.
GLYN SMITH is the man responsible for helping ease Bels’ worries at first team level for the remainder of the season.
After Ian Champion resigned as coach last week for the second time, the Bels committee approached Smith to fill the gap short-term, alongside injured players Dave Rihoy and Neil Le Cheminant.
The former Bels junior and Muratti player, who earned two caps in 1986, has previously coached at youth level for several years, as well as assisting Colin Fallaize at St Martin’s for three years at senior level.
And Smith (pictured) explained that he is looking forward to the challenge and will put as much time in as life will allow.

I fear for Smith. Batiste said in his column on Saturday that Champion was too emotional, too much of a nice bloke to remain in any one coaching job for the long term, if this is the case then Smith has no chance. Smith is a really nice bloke, a genuine, caring nice bloke so because of this and the fact that Batiste is never wrong I think Smith will last until the end of the season tops
