STICK to paths and be aware of danger on Guernsey’s cliffs, the Ambulance and Rescue Service has said.

The warning came days after an injured teenager had to be hauled up St Martin’s cliffs in an operation involving more than 20 members of Ambulance and Rescue, Police, Fire and Rescue, and Civil Protection Volunteers.

The rescue cost Ambulance and Rescue more than £2,000.

But chief ambulance officer Jon Beausire said he did not want to put people off enjoying one of the island’s assets.

How can sending a few people to a cliff cost 2 grand!?

I think the cost of the rescue is totally irrelevant to the general public who at no point should ever feel a level of guilt for calling out any emergency service based on costs incurred.
Yes prevention is always the best form of protection and therefore I totally agree with public warnings about the dangers of the cliffs but the costs incurred to the particular service is of a strategic level for the management not the public to whom they provide the service to.

Consider it lucky that it was highly trained cliff rescuers that cost £2,000

If you has asked 20 advocates to attend, they would have charged £2,000 each
