Tears and fears as OAPs have to quit Vale homes

Wednesday 9th February 2011, 2:30PM GMT.

Elaine MachonELDERLY people living near Maison Maritaine have been reduced to tears and left in fear for their future.

As part of plans to redevelop the Vale care home, 20 tenants will have to move out of States properties at Maison Le Clement, Courtil Le Clement, Les Granges and the former Vale Rectory.

Most are elderly and many said they did not want to have to go through the stress of moving home.

Elaine Machon, 85 (pictured), has lived in her flat in the former rectory for 21 years.

‘What can we do about it?’ she said. ‘It is an upset you know – it would be terrible to knock this building down – it would be wicked because it is very old.’

In your report it says the lady will lose her view of Cobo from where she lives at the Vale? This is wonderful that her eyesight is so much better than anyone else I know!

If the people living in them don’t want them to go, then why are they thinking about redeveloping?

Are the authorities going to help these elderly tenants find other homes?

Its a shame these elderly people are having to move out their homes. However, they are renting. As I understand it, the States are going to move them to other accomodation AND help them financially with that move. Does anyone know of a private firm that will rent out accomodation at a good price and guarantee that that accomodation is for life? Not many of them. Does anyone know of a private firm that, if they wanted their property for redevelopment, would give the tenants the required notice period and leave them to find their own other accomodation and funds to move? Sound more likely? It IS a shame, but are these people really getting that harshly dealt with?

I think there will be some negative reporting to come which is a shame.
