HEATHER WATSON will come up against fellow qualifier Stephanie Foretz Gacon in the second round of the WTA tournament in Memphis, possibly later today, after the French woman defeated the seeded Olga Govortsova 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 yesterday.

Watson reached the same stage by defeating Andrea Hlavackova and will have high hopes of defeating Gacon, the world number 160, despite the fact that Gacon beat her 7-6 in the decider in Michigan only last week.

The winner of the last-16 encounter is likely to meet home favourite Melanie Oudin, the third seed, in the quarter-finals, with significant ranking points available.
