RUGBY World Cup winner Mike Catt was in Guernsey yesterday to help put the Guernsey Schools team through their paces.

Organised by Clydesdale Bank International, the former England utility player took part in a training session at the Grammar School with more than 20 players from Les Beaucamps High, St Sampson’s High, Grammar and La Mare de Carteret High.

Catt was part of the England side that beat Australia in the World Cup Final in 2003 and helped the team reach the final again four years later, when they finished runners-up to South Africa.

Catt was over as an ambassador for Clydesdale and, having recently retired from playing to become a coach at London Irish, he admitted it was nice to get back in among the action.
