COLOMBIANS defeated hockey title rivals Independents 3-1 to leave them on the verge of retaining the Men’s Division One League Championship.

They are now 13 points clear at the top of the table, having played a game less than Deloitte Elizabeth College and a game more than Indies, who sit level on points in second and third positions respectively.

Indies went into the match missing midfielders Andy Alford and Ed Prow but knew that it was still a must-win match, especially with Colombians missing island duo Tristan Cairns and Matt Watson, as well as Phil Radford and Liam Roffey.

The oranges certainly started the match in that frame of mind.
