A major festival is to be staged this summer featuring over 80 acts including Ocean Colour Scene, The Gaslight Anthem, Example and The Go! Team.

The Guernsey Festival of Performing Art, which takes place on 2 and 3 July, will be held at The Rabbit Warren, which is farmland by Victoria Avenue, St Sampson’s.

Festivalgoers can enjoy headline acts at the Main Stage, international DJs at the Infectious Rhythm Dance Arena and The Get Down Stage, and will also be able to see the rising talent from the local area at the Chaos Stage.

And the festival is set to offer a host of other attractions, such as a specialised Arts Area, a Spine Ramp for skateboarders and BMXers, the world’s tallest mobile Reverse Bungee Rocket, and a selection of market stalls.

Behind it are brothers Paul and Jon Stephen, who have in recent years promoted a string of successful theatre and music events in the island.

The pair explained the need for a large-scale high-profile event in Guernsey:

‘We wanted to continue to bring live entertainment here, including more shows and music events, but also knew that there was a thirst for a large-scale festival on the island, with big name acts,’ said Jon.

With more big acts yet to be announced, the event is set to provide an affordable weekend for music and arts fans on a scale that is not currently available in Guernsey.

not sure about this event, does guernsey really want a festival? the facebook pages suggests otherwise, hasn’t created the feeding frenzy one would have expected. the names mentioned thus far don’t seem to be exciting that many people. they were big names perhaps but they ain’t now!
i don’t think we have the large numbers of people that a festival needs nor does the islands have the infastructure to support such an event, not yet anyway. I hear they are thinking they will get 10,000 people, i dunno where they will get them from Jersey live has been going for 7 years and have only just got that number. seems like they are building a stage that can have 10,000 audience but if they only have 2,000 those 2k will be spread across 4 stages and will be like peas on a plate and there will not be much atmosphere. i think they should have started smaller and grown, or perhaps put their money into things like Vale Earth Fayre to see that grow.
who are paul & jon, never heard of them or any events they have successfully promoted!
all the best but think it just aint gonna work, sorry!

It’s because of Sam’s comments and negative attitude that Guernsey has very little in the way of live entertainmnet / festivals. Why don’t you just get behind Paul and Jon and support what they’re trying to do for the island? And I don’t see the relevance of you not knowing them? Do you know the individuals behind Reading Festival without having to look it up? Try a positive attitude for a change!

Sam – perhaps it would be better to reserve your judgement until after the event? If it ends up being a success you’ll have egg on your face big time.

OK you raise some valid concerns and it does seem like a huge venture for an island the size of Guernsey but I’m pretty sure the organisers didn’t just do a Wayne’s World and decide to put on an event based on nothing more than a dream containing Jim Morrison and a “wierd naked indian.”

Young people are always grumbling there’s nothing to do. At least support people who are trying to remedy that.

Seems a bit daft that they’ve planned this for the same weekend as the Sark Folk Festival.

I think you’ll find it was Wayne’s World ’2′ that featured a dream containing Jim Morrison and a “wierd(sic) naked indian.”.

Good on these two guys for staging a major music festival on our island. I think it will be fantastic for Guernsey and why not have a ‘Jersey Live’ equivalent here.

The band names released so far are far from ‘old names’…Example, The Gaslight Anthem, The Go! Team are very much ‘now’ and I can’t wait to see them…plus you’ll find that most festivals on this scale in the UK have slightly older names topping the bill. It’s only the festivals that attract 80,000+ that can afford the best of the big names that are currently playing today.

Plus, they have an awesome line-up of DJs in the dance tent from what I can see.

Best of luck Paul and Jon, you deserve a very large pat (not cow pat, field, festival, get it?…never mind) on the back and I will definitely be going. Bring it on!
