ISLANDERS who want to take a CBT motorbike test in the coming months are anxiously waiting for an alternative venue to be found.
The last compulsory basic training tests to be held at Les Beaucamps High took part at the weekend, but the Environment Department and the Guernsey Motorcycle Training Scheme is yet to find another suitable venue.
They were told last month by the Education Department that they would no longer be able to use the Les Beaucamps High premises because of the development of the new school building. The lack of venue has meant the GMTS has had to stop taking bookings.
Samuel Bowring, 15, booked the last available space for the tests at the weekend. He had tried to book for his brother Thomas, 14, as well but there was no space left.

As a recently retired,(after 32 years of motorcyle training ) GMTS instructor, I would like to make two comments on all of the recent publications regarding Compulsory Basic Training, or CBT as it is known, and the recent sad loss of the training site used since September of 1978 when motorcycle training began in Guernsey.
1, Daily reporters refer to CBT as “The motorcycle Test”, It is not. CBT is a training course that ends with an assessment ride to prove the trainees competance to ride as a complete novice. It should be refered to as Motorcycle training as this is what it is.
2, Unfortunately GMTS is starting to look like the villain in this saga of the lost training ground, I can assure you that as far back as 2007 GMTS were actively seeking alternative premises / site to use “when” the day came that they had to move from Les Beaucamps. Since that time GMTS made many representations to the Environment Department regarding the need to have a plan of where they would move to on that day, alas the efforts of GMTS to ensure a ” fall back ” position came to nought.

Blimey, all they need is a bit of tarmac and possibly a small cabin to do the training in. Surely somewhere suitable can be found?
As a motorcyclist it irks somewhat that others who wish to train may be unable to do so through no fault of their own.
