Wednesday 23rd February 2011, 2:30PM GMT.
A GUERNSEYMAN who arrived in Christchurch just an hour before an earthquake struck the city said it was the most shocking experience of his life.
Island swimmer Ross Yeates, 28, pictured, and his wife, Lucy, had just started a trip to visit family friends when the 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck yesterday at a shallow depth of around three miles.
At least 75 people are known to have died in the disaster with scores of people trapped under the rubble of collapsed buildings.
It is the city’s second earthquake in just six months and the country’s worst natural disaster for 80 years.
