After five years of being the Queen’s personal representative in the Bailiwick, Sir Fabian Malbon left the island yesterday. (Picture by Peter Frankland, 1098347)
After five years as the Bailiwick’s Lt-Governor, Sir Fabian and Lady Malbon said their final goodbyes yesterday.
Representatives of the Royal Court, the States, emergency services and youth organisations gathered outside Government House at midday to say farewell.
A Lynx helicopter from Guernsey’s affiliated Royal Navy ship, HMS Daring, had been due to pick up Sir Fabian and Lady Malbon and take them aboard, but the weather prevented that.
Instead, the couple spoke to the crowd and were driven down to the harbour, where they boarded the St Peter Port lifeboat, Spirit of Guernsey, to reach HMS Daring.

Why don’t they just take the condor or maybe take a normal plane… What a waste of money.

One of the better Governors. Approachable, humourous and surprisingly ‘normal’.

Are you paying for it then Mr G

He seems to be a nice bloke.

Guernsey’s in debt and looking to take more money from the working-man….one-question remains, who pays the bill for this elaborate form of travel, my guess is it will be added to the existing debt to await a bail out from a donkey….PS: I have sent a couple of quid and a rhubarb pie to help shore up the poor box for the next jolly.

@ Mr G/Mr Bee
Moan moan moan. Did it even cost anything?? The lifeboat doesn’t normally charge for it’s services and with him being an ex Naval Officer was there even any charge from the Navy? Not only that, given the support Sir Fabian and his wife has given to many local charities during thier time here it’s only right that we show some appreciation in return. Get a life.
