THE founder of Europe’s largest sports nutrition brand Maximuscle is ‘proud’ of what the business has achieved over the past 20 years following its £162m. sale to GlaxoSmithKline.

Guernsey resident Zef Eisenberg, who founded Maximuscle in 1991, said the deal, which was completed last week, signalled a new chapter for the company and he wished its new owners well.

Because although he sold the majority of Maximuscle to private equity firm Darwin for £75m. in 2007, he had retained a 30% stake in the company and was still its president.

‘It has been an amazing 20 years,’ said Mr Eisenberg.
