Abuser’s early release ‘would be a huge insult’
Saturday 12th March 2011, 2:30PM GMT.

Eugene Hughes on his way to court in 2008 where he was sentenced to six-and-a-half years for eight counts of indecent assault on children.
SERIAL child sex offender Eugene Hughes is seeking release from prison after serving less than half his sentence.
The former judo instructor, who was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in 2008 for eight counts of indecent assault on children, unsuccessfully applied for parole last year and is eligible and expected to re-apply in September.
His potential release after just three years is a total insult to his victims, said one woman, whose life has been devastated by Hughes’s abuse.
‘This man completely ruined my life, totally. There isn’t a single area of my life that hasn’t been affected by what he did. He destroyed me,’ said the 35-year-old, who was told of Hughes’s failed parole application through the Probation Service Victim Contact Scheme.

Who sits on these parole panels?
Are they all local toffs or are they some of Islanders friends from across the water?
Ray
I am sure there is a point to your question but where is the need for you to bring in gratuitous insults – “Local toffs” etc – little bit class conscious are we – a whiff of the lynch mob starting up again is there?
hugo
If you think the term ‘local toffs’ is a gratuitous insult you should try to get out a bit more my friend
Like the Jurat system I would guess that these panels are selected only from the islands’great and good rather than interspersed with a sprinkling of ‘ordinary’ folk
Report abuse
Sorry Ray, but your comment was bound to upset at least one individual whose energy would be better directed at tne peodophile in question than on your comment. Rest assured that you are not alone in your thoughts, having a son whose life has been badly affected by this monster. The question is, “when will these people get their just deserts”?
The Jurat system is good, and works.

Ray,
“the 35-year-old, who was told of Hughes’s failed parole application”
You do realise that his parole application failed right? From your comment you imply that they made the wrong decision and that they should have released him. Care to calrify?
Read the article, people. He is not being released, he is only applying to be released. The panel has not given any indication that they will grant that request.
my bad – after my comment I realise that I did not read the article fully either – but that it makes Ray’s comment even more off point. He is not even applying for parole yet, but is expected to apply later this year. What is there to criticise??

Nice one, I nearly choked on my coffee when I read that little classic!
Keep the jokes coming………

I have no problem reading and understanding the English language so I do realise the man failed in his application according to the report
I’ll rephrase the original question …
Just out of interest does anyone know the make up of the Parole panel?
Please don’t say L’Oreal,because they’re worth it !
The lady in the article should send a letter to the Panel and tell them in graphic terms how he destroyed her life. Send them a copy each year he is up for parole. Get other victims to do the same!

Para 1 IS SEEKING, Para 2 EXPECTED. So he hasn’t and therefore isn’t.
SERIAL child sex offender Eugene Hughes IS SEEKING release from prison after serving less than half his sentence.
…unsuccessfully applied for parole last year and IS ELIGIBLE AND EXPECTED to re-apply in September.

I see that I DO have trouble reading and understanding English after all!
I wish I hadn’t chipped in at all now!
Ray
It’s not your fault – the article itself is internally inconsistent, he cannot be seeking release if he hasn’t applied!
Voice of reason – wise up
He has applied. It costs nothing.
He will apply again because he has nothing to lose.
And whatever, he will be out in 2013 much earlier than his original sentence would imply.
Why wouldn’t his victims be concerned
Report abuse
This guy is a confirmed kiddie fiddler and so is labelled a pedophile. Why is it that anyone who looks at photos of under age naked children are given the same label and equally harsh sentences for doing so? Shouldn’t the millions of people who have watched the movie Lolita where Jeremy Irons runs away with a 14 year old girl also be given the same label?
You have to send letters BEFORE he applies. Sending them after will do no good.

SaveOurSouls,
You’re kind of missing the point with your statement.
Whilst the people that are looking at pictures of ‘under age naked children’ are not actually involved in the act of setting up and taking the photos – someone somewhere is.
These images are not ‘actors’ in a story, they are children that are being exploited and damaged by sick people for others pleasure. ‘I was just looking’ does not cut is as an excuse for a lesser offence(besides which you’d have to be a pretty twisted individual to seek those images out in the first place).
In my mind seeking out and looking at any images of this nature is in the same category and does deserve the same label and harsh sentencing as someone who perpetrates the acts physically.
The sad truth in all of this is that so many of these awful people whether the perpetrators or the voyeurs are allowed back on the streets having served a laughably short sentence.
Let’s hope that his is not shortened any time soon.

@Save our Souls.
Having never seen the movie you are on about I cant comment on it , but i’m guessing it didn’t have a fairytale ending.
In the same way that if you were to hold the door open to allow bank robbers to get away it is called being an “accessory to the crime”.
I do not have children, nor am I likely to so I am going to ask a question, if you have children how would you feel if you found out that someone had taken naked pictures of them for distribution ?.
I know this is extreme but in some countries these people would be sentenced to death , ask anyone who has been abused if they agree with your views , I doubt very much they will.
The people who commit these crimes know exactly what they are doing, if they say they don’t then they should be locked away for life as they are a danger to themselves and the general public. The people I feel sorry for are the families of these people

i have children and if very i found out that someone had taken photos of them i would do time as all the pedo’s should be locked away on a diff island we need a sex reg over here so we know who is around its not fair
Report abuse
I think the fact that he has applied for early release just goes to show he does`nt feel he should be serving his full sentence?.
Basically he dose`nt care in the slightest about what he`s done but only that he got caught and i bet the momment he`s out he`ll be doing the same things again.
These people should NEVER be allowed near children again and that mean keeping them locked up or put on an island along with all the other perverts to rot.

he is a complette waste of the air he breathes, why he is breathing it is actually beyond me.
i have known this man all my life, and i wish i didnt know him. it makes me sick to think he could be let out of prison, and even sicker that he wants to be let out early.
the minuite he is out he will strike again.
hes sick
no ill re-phrase that, he is vile!!!
i say wack him in a cage in the middle of the high street and let the public haunt him for weeks then put him back inside (he wanted release give it to him) then put him straight back inside…. and never let him out…. throw away the key- whatever, but put him in the threat of the public again and it will be a huge mistake
