JERSEY’S strength at first-team level proved crucial as they held onto the inter-insular squash trophy at Beau Sejour on Saturday.

Thanks largely to the excellence of the Sarnian B squads, which both triumphed 4-1, Guernsey were looking good at 12-9 up with just the two prestige A matches to be completed.

But as tantalisingly close outright victory for the locals seemed then, big wins for the two talented visiting first teams proved the difference in an ultimate 17-13 scoreline for the visitors.

Indeed, only a cracking performance by young Issy Norman-Ross prevented a Caesarean whitewash at senior A level.
