Gilligan’s banker Gavet comes up trumps for RGGC

THE Royal Guernsey’s own Graeme McDowell saw them over the line in the Hampshire Sevens on Sunday.

Visitors St Pierre Park put up a tremendous fight at L’Ancresse in the preliminary round tie to decide who would face the Guernsey Juniors in the first round, but experience told in the end as John Gavet won thefinal match out on the course to clinch the winning point in a 4-3 victory.

Afterwards, the RGGC captain Jim Gilligan revealed that he had jokingly told Gavet that he had put him in the anchor role ‘a la Ryder Cup hero Graeme McDowell’ because he was his banker.

‘I wanted to put “seasoned campaigners” in the last couple of matches because I knew they could be crucial,’ Gilligan said.
