Guernsey stars 2, mighty England 0
Tuesday 15th March 2011, 2:30PM GMT.
TIME to toast the ladies.
Just when it looked as if Guernsey were going to endure a disappointing opening day in the British Isles indoor bowls championship at Stanley in County Durham, up popped Carol Ingrouille and Lianna de la Mare (pictured) to save the day, along with Matt Le Ber’s high-powered quartet.
Ingrouille found her touch perfectly to oust English champion Gillian Cliff 21-11 in the women’s singles quarter-finals and will now face the defending champion Julie Forrest, from Scotland, for a place in tomorrow’s final.
Leading 16-9, a full house of four shots gave Ingrouille, who beat world champion Ali Merrien en route to these championships, a 20-9 lead, and she dropped two meaningless singles before getting across the line.
