Islanders rally to save cardiac unit

Tuesday 15th March 2011, 2:29PM GMT.

WHILE islanders are joining the fight to save Southampton’s Children’s Cardiac Unit, its closure would have little impact on Social Security, which pays patients’ travel costs.

The future of the unit at Southampton General is no longer guaranteed, even though it was rated the second-highest performing of 11 paediatric cardiac centres in England and the best outside London.

Guernsey mum Holly Guy, 24, is supporting the Southern Daily Echo’s Have a Heart campaign to save the unit.  She is currently circulating a petition around the island.

  • Petitions are currently available at Channel Island Co-operative outlets, Aladdin’s Cave and Jungle Gym at Oatlands. They will also be provided at the Guernsey Press Newspaper Centre at Braye Road Industrial Estate, Vale, later today.
