Lowe blow as questions on Trott go unanswered
Tuesday 15th March 2011, 11:30AM GMT.
THE Policy Council has refused to answer questions relating to Chief Minister Lyndon Trott’s trips abroad and his involvement with the Concept Group.
Deputy Mary Lowe submitted the questions – addressed to Deputy Chief Minister Bernard Flouquet – but the Policy Council refused to answer, saying that they should have been directed at the chief minister.
The council took almost the full 15 days a department or committee has to respond to questions placed under the States’ own rules.
Deputy Lowe (pictured) has resubmitted the questions – addressed to Deputy Trott this time – but faces another wait of up to 15 days for a response.

I wish Mary Lowe the very best of luck, she’ll need it!!

Deputy Lowe for Chief Minister.

It would be a little unfair on LT to have to answer another Deputy’s questions until after the official complaint against him has been resolved

Surely there are rules on posing and obtaining answers within the States between Deputies. Has Mary Lowe simply asked the wrong medium or should the Policy Council have (given their remit) posed the question/s to Deputy Trott on Deputy Lowes behalf. Surely this sort of behaviour within the States, and it being reported in the Guernsey Press, shows continued disloyalty and a certain degree of time being wasted – time which should be better spent serving the electorate.

And according to the longer version of the article in the Press, the rest of the Policy Council were totally unaware the letter had been submitted ?????

Ray.
Not if those questions formed part of the bigger picture and the answers could be placed before the code of conduct panel at the same time as the hearing. If no one has anything to hide i can’t see the problem.

Wouldn’t that turn it into a kangaroo court?

i think there should be a tribunal of inquiry to find out what happened to these questions

All power to Deputy Mary Lowe, but I fear she will be coming against the might of the States. It is beyond ludicrous that the Policy Council members are unaware of the submitted questions, and we all know that it is pointless asking questions of the Chief Minister – he is always able to avoid the issues. Can we hope that the deliberations of the Conduct Committee will be made available, or will it be yet another “cover up”
