THE countdown has begun.

There are only six weeks to go until the Dancefloor Challenge.

I have now reached the stage where I pretty much know the samba and tango. There are a few sections still to learn, but

I am not panicking about having only a few weeks in which to do so.

This week we have been tarting it up and improving on what we have already learned. My main problem is that I can’t help thinking about my steps rather than just doing them, but I am definitely a lot more relaxed about it than I was a few weeks ago.

This whole experience has been really good fun. I keep bumping into people who ask me how the dancing is coming along and I am doing my best not to let people down.

It has been hard work, mentally and physically. My memory is shot at the moment, as my brain is full of dance moves. But physically, I am feeling fitter than I was when I started.

Things will certainly start hotting up in the coming weeks once we have our music. We will be practising more than three times a week to make sure we do the best we possibly can.

Small things like where my toes are pointed, where my head is angled and what face I am making are becoming more important, as it is those things the judges will be looking for. I have to remember all those things as well as my steps and that could mean the difference between winning and losing on the night.

But it also comes down to the audience vote and how many friends you have there on the night.

It will certainly be difficult when it comes to the family vote, because mine will have to vote for either me or my sister, who will also be taking to the stage. We have already told them their votes have to be split equally, so my mum could end up voting or one of us, and my dad for the other.

I gather Island FM’s Olivia Tostevin is particularly keen to beat me in the Dancefloor Challenge (nothing like a bit of media rivalry, eh?) and has laid down the gauntlet, so that’s a bit of added impetus for me to pull out all the stops on the night.

But, winning or losing, this has been a great experience. I am so glad I decided to ask Keith Enevoldsen (admittedly after a few too many drinks) if I could do it, otherwise I would be quite jealous of my sister.
