AN INVESTIGATION is under way after a partially disabled woman suffered injuries using a pedestrian crossing.
Audrey Biden – who has pulmonary fibrosis, slight sight impairment and walks with a slight limp – sustained heavy bruising on her left hip and elbow and jarred her spine when she tripped over the western kerbstone on the crossing at the end of New Road, next to Maubrook Jewellers on the Bridge.
Several incidents at the crossing have been reported but no action has previously been taken.
Environment is investigating the incident.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
The kerb is painted white to highlight the area to pedestrians. If you put a sign there along the lines of ‘mind the step’ people are more likely to have accidents because they will be looking at the sign instead of the kerb.

This wins the award for most pointless moan of the month.
There has to be something separating the road from the pavement, this crossing, like all the others on the island, has dropped kerbs, it is barely a centimetre raised, and it is already painted to highlight it.
If people can’t look where they’re going then that is the persons fault.
What a load of nonsense, any danger of taking some personal responsibility?

Well said The Truth. I went there yesterday to see for myself and there is no special hazard to speak of anywhere near this crossing – even for the disabled. As you say, what about personal responsibility?
The current vogue for a blame culture combined with a victim mentality really is quite depressing. No need for a time and money wasting ‘investigation’. The woman concerned should simply regard it as a lesson learned and take more care in future.

“Fountain Street Crossing Lights in Pensioner Robbery”
Police have confirmed that the Fountain Street Lights are their main suspects after an audacious attempt to snatch a pensioners wallet the Press can reveal.
77 year old visitor from Humberside Frank Piddled was waiting at the crossing when the alledged incident took place. “After a couple of pints in the Kosy I was just standing there on my way to the Harbour Lights – and then wallop – my wallet was gone” he tearfully revealed.
Police have also warned people not to approach the lights as they could be dangerous and immediately report any sightings.
Detective Inspector Tom Smith, who is leading the investigation, said “…although this type of crime is rare in Guernsey we take any allegation of Traffic Light Robbery very seriously…”
