Governance report ‘is too vague’

Barry BrehautA REPORT produced by the Public Accounts Committee recommending ground rules for good governance is too vague and needs to be far more definitive, according to the Scrutiny Committee.

In its first meeting open to the media, the committee yesterday discussed the PAC’s review of the Wales Audit Office’s report on the issue.

The PAC has recommended that the States adopt the six core principles of good governance and that the Policy Council, Treasury and States committees take them on board when fulfilling their mandates. The committee argued that by using broad-based principles rather than specific targets, they would be harder to circumvent.

But Scrutiny chairman Barry Brehaut (pictured) disagreed, calling it a ‘cul-de-sac’ report.
