THE founders of a local parenting website are encouraging islanders to sign a petition to help save Southampton Hospital’s cardiac unit for children.
Guernseymums.gg is concerned about the facility’s threatened closure and has decided to support parents who are heading the campaign locally to save it.
A national review of centres performing heart surgery could see the unit being closed for good, despite it being rated as providing the highest quality of service outside London.
Guernseymums co-founders Milly Dudley-Owen and Sarah Winsall believe that if the Southampton centre were closed it would have a major impact on local patients and their parents.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
My son had heart surgery in Southampton Chest and Heart Unit in 1978. The skills of the paediatric cardiology consultant surgeons were as good as those in GOSH.
The importance of my son having his treatment in Sou. meant that I did not feel alone as my husband and family could afford to visit and there was no stressful travel as there would have been to London. A single flight direct to Southampton improves the confidence of parents when they return home knowing they are only a short flight or phone call away from the Unit. PLEASE keep it open. I have a very healthy 38 year old son thanks to the Unit and don’t remember it as a traumatic event in our lives.
