Obesity scheme fears allayed
Thursday 24th March 2011, 2:29PM GMT.
RESEARCHERS behind a pilot scheme that will see school children being weighed and measured have sought to allay some parents’ fears.
The Guernsey Child Measurement Initiative is a joint project to tackle obesity between the Health Promotion Unit and the University of Oxford.
Children from Years 1 to 5 at Amherst and St Martin’s Primary Schools will take part in the initiative.
This week, Dr Karina McHardy, from the British Heart Foundation Health Promotion Research Group, and representatives from the Health Promotion Unit have held information evenings for parents to provide them with more details about the scheme and to give them a chance to ask questions about it.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
Do they really think that these poor children will not notice that they are being weighed. How does this tie in with the desire to make children/teenagers less obsessed with their weight and body image? Carbohydrates and processed food are the cause of the massive increase in obesity. We are tackling it from the wrong angle.
