RESIDENTS in a narrow lane in St Martin’s have warned of traffic and litter problems after a planning application was made for a bring bank at Raymond Falla House.

Public Services wants to create a temporary site at Longue Rue, also known as Burnt Lane.

But a department spokesman said the application was a back-up plan in case a permanent site cannot be found.

The bring banks have been at St Martin’s Garage since October when they were moved from the Manor Stores site because Sandpiper needed the land for parking for the new Iceland store.

They will remain at the garage for the next six months.

Public Services, despite stating that this is a back up plan, have again, not taken into consideration health and safety issues relating to adults and children using this already busy, single track lane in St Martins.
Increasing the volume of traffic in that lane is ‘an accident waiting to happen’, particularly with the larger lorries that will consume the width of the road and leave no room for pedestrians.
The additional noise factor is also another pressing concern for the residents in that area who already have to endure the constant daily noise of skateboarders who use the site at Raymond Falla House as the Southern Skate Park on weekday evenings and over the weekend.
Nobody is against re-cycling, but health and safety is paramount in looking for a suitable site in St Martins. Should that fail, then seperating and recovering the recyclable material needs to be looked at from the residents homes.
