WITH the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton just 15 days away, former Lt-Governor Sir Peter Le Cheminant has been reflecting on being the island’s Crown representative at the last big Royal Wedding.
Sir Peter was Lt-Governor between 1980 and 1985, so was invited to the marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, which took place on 29 July 1981.
He attended with his wife, and they were given prime seats at St Paul’s Cathedral, just six rows from the front, along with the Lt-Governors of Jersey and the Isle of Man.
‘I was really amazed we were better seated than the chiefs of staff,’ said Sir Peter, 90.

My invite is still coming

Sorry was never a Diana fan. I thought she was a sweetie but never saw her as becoming a strong member of the RF
Best wedding dress to date was Princess Margaret in 1960 for me

I wish the media circus surrounding this wedding would end.
Not only is it boring in the extreme, but more seriously have we learned nothing from Charles and Diana?
In all the “fairy tale” rigmarole surrounding this wedding (and other royal weddings) it may have escaped our attention that Diana’s fancy wedding dress didn’t do anything about the dysfunctional family she was joining. Neither did it prevent an extremely unhappy marriage leading to depression, eating disorders, divorce and ultimately her untimely death.
The endless media attention fuelled by an intrusive “peeping tom” culture didn’t help either. I hope (as far as possible) William and Kate have the good sense to keep the public / media out of their marriage. In turn, I hope the public leave them alone.

I was unable to accept my invite as my time is at a premium…I have a strict deadline to finish my thesis on “How To Rid The World Of Parasites and Associated Lackeys”.

PLP, very well said. I share your opinion. This overhyped media tripe really bugs me.
