THE 2011 Gilson match played at La Pouquelaye Halls in St Helier stood out on paper as Guernsey’s best chance of an outright win in any of the past six batdminton matches that have all gone Jersey’s way apart from a draw in 2007.

The Caesareans were without a few of their big players while the Sarnians were largely at full strength apart from their Commonwealth Games player Elena Johnson, which at least partly levelled the balance, and Kiara Green who is continuing her university studies in the UK.

Guernsey’s male pairings were Paul Le Tocq/Kevin Le Moigne, Andy Orme/Stu Hardy and Chris Dragun/Danny Penney, but none could beat Jersey’s top pair of Chris Cotillard/Gavin Carter, who combined really well with a very stout defence.

The closest was a three-set rubber against Le Tocq/Le Moigne but the hosts prevailed 21-14 in the decider.
