Island ‘must foster entrepreneurialism’

THE island should attempt to start an ‘entrepreneurial revolution’, according to the managing director of the Guernsey Enterprise Agency.
John Stares outlined some ideas about how Guernsey could create an environment and culture which would encourage people to set up new businesses.
He said that, compared with the UK, Guernsey’s global competitiveness was very low because the economy was centred on the finance industry.
Each year, 400,000 new businesses are started in the UK and Mr Stares said that to match that rate around 400 new ventures should be started in the island each year.
