THE island’s new lieutenant-governor was sworn in at at St James yesterday.
Air Marshal Peter Walker became the third person from the RAF to hold the office, following Sir Peter Le Cheminant [1979-85] and Sir Thomas Elmhirst [1953-58].
His Excellency told guests that he and his wife were taking on a civic responsibility with a feeling of great humility and he spoke of the distinguished individuals who had gone before him in the role.
His Excellency was accompanied by his son, serving army officer Captain Robert Walker, when, led by HM Sheriff Richard De La Mare, he carried the Royal Warrant into the building for inspection.
Wife Lynda, their children James and Suzie and the Lt-Governor’s father, Group Captain Sidney Walker, and mother, Chris, were also in attendance.

Must keep the native under control,
Governor? as in Prison,
Isn’t it about time this archaic custom ended,
To me is shows a sign of insecurity.
But then again a cushy number at whose expense; if the Island, then we can’t afford it.
If England’s then the people can’t afford it.
Sell off that ex-Pirates dwelling and the coffers will expand.
