FAMILY-RUN Rex Stationers will be closing this Christmas after 66 years in business.
The company was set up by John Cataroche in a shed in his parent’s backyard in 1945.
Today his daughters Sheila Cataroche, 58, and Diane Lesbirel, 51, run the business. They had worked with their father since they left school. He passed ownership to them, as well as their sister Sally, in 2006 and died six months later.
Now Ms Cataroche is looking to retire after 43 years with the business and they have decided to close.

I have used Rex on many occasions, and I am lucky to know Diane personally. But whoever has served me when I have been there, has been an absolute pleasure to deal with, and I will be sorry to see the business close.

What a shame, another of our well known and trusted family businesses closing. There is already a dearth of known local retailers who will supply the smallest item. Creaseys, though, whom I think are from Jersey anyway, would not be mourned.

Another Guernsey institution closing.
I remember many a time as a youngster wandering the aisles looking at the pens, calculators and ink stamps, while waiting for my parents to pick up their stationery order.

I wonder what weird and wonderful rules Environment will lay down for the future of this long standing shop site
