DO NOT let the scoreline deceive you, Saturday’s inter-insular was far from plain sailing for Guernsey.
The hosts went into the encounter as undoubted favourites at Beau Sejour, but you should always beware of the underdog – and Jersey made it a hard afternoon for the Greens.
However, through excellent use of the bench, great team ethic and an outstanding performance from MVP Jason Hooper, Guernsey prevailed, to the delight of a noisy crowd.
‘There were three really tough quarters of basketball out there,’ said Guernsey coach for the day Nigel Govett in the absence of Jeff Stuart, referring to the first three periods before his side took control of the last, winning it 22-9.
