GPs could be under value for money scrutiny

Mark CookeHEALTH and Social Services wants to review GP practices to ensure islanders are getting the most for their money.

The department’s 2020 vision of future healthcare has called for an investigation into its services and contracts to make sure taxpayers are receiving the most efficient and best quality of care.

Chief officer Mark Cooke (pictured) said as part of that process he would like to add doctors’ surgeries into the mix.

‘The General Medical Council is introducing a revalidation process [in the UK] where to remain registered practices have to be assessed regularly,’ he said.
